Stars come for Charity Golf Classic

THE DAYS are drawing closer for the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival Charity Golf Classic, under the patronage of Prime Minister Patrick Manning, which will be hosted at the Tobago Plantations Beach and Golf Resort from February 26 to 28.

The four-day event is expected to attract 120 guest professional and celebrity golfers including ex-West Indies opening batsman Barbadian Desmond Haynes, recently retired heavyweight boxing champion Lennox Lewis, MTV’s Ananda Lewis, actresses Nicole Ari Parker of Soul Food,  and Gabrielle Union of Bad Boys II. Also carded to attend are Soul Food actor Boris Kodjoe, Dorien Wilson of The Parkers, Malik Yoba of Girlfriends and former Atlanta Hawks player Dominique Wilkins.

The stars will be treated to “top notch entertainment nightly, a huge barbecue cook-out and a spectacular gala dinner” according to organisers. And a chance to explore Tobago. IslandEvents, headed by Douglas Gordon have structured the competition in such a way that top local and regional golfers will have a chance to mingle on the course. And for the less versed golfers, there will be clinics and fun competitions out on the range and practice greens with a chance to win prizes provided by tournament sponsors.

The event is aimed at attracting the visitors who will still be in Trinidad and Tobago after the Carnival festivities  and is garnered towards publicising this country’s assets through partnerships with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the United Kingdom’s 1Xtra and Caribbean Vibrations which broadcasts to North America and Europe. A percentage of tournament earnings will go toward the Tobago Oasis Foundation, a peer support group for individuals infected or affected by HIV/AIDS; and the Trinidad-based Cotton Tree Foundation, which focuses on the poor and disenfranchised.

With numerous parties, cocktails and an all-inclusive party IslandEvents.com has dubbed the golf classic, the “Ultimate After-Carnival Event” and with it’s contributions to charity has attained the right balance. Intereted parties can call their office at 868-628-5080 or go to www.islandevents.com/golf for further information.
