North top British Gas zone
NORTH zone, led by Afeisha Noel with 13 goals from 15 attempts, smashed South/West 20-7 yesterday, to win the inter-zonal title in this year’s British Gas Secondary Schools Netball League.
But the Southerners through Cedros Composite took the team shooting title, with the individual shooting crown going to Central’s Andrea Kinsale who edged Petal Wilkins (East) 6-5 in a shoot-off. The Northerners comfortably beat East 22-11 in their semi-final, with Noel scoring 12 goals and Nariba Grant 10. The winners led 12-5 at the half-time interval. Wilkins netted nine goals and Kimberly Charles two for East. South/West overwhelmed Central 23-7 in the other semi-final on Jenniel Quashie’s 12 goals from 17 attempts, Karen Phillips six of eight and Marissa George five of eight. Kinsale had all seven goals for the Central schoolgirls from eight attempts.
The final was over as a contest in the first half when North led 11-3, despite some good shooting from Quashie who scored six goals of 10 attempts and Phillip one of six. Grant scored the other seven goals from 12 attempts for North. South/West scored 26 goals with both Phillip and George scoring nine goals and Giselle Noel eight to take the team title. They edged runners-up Central (Holy Faith) who scored 25 goals, with Kinsale scoring 13 goals, Kavern Hunte and Jenicia Brathwaite six each. East (Sangre Grande Educational Institute) and North (Malick Senior) were tied for third both with 22 goals. For East, Shanda Wilson scored nine goals, Angel Ottley seven and Avianne Archie six, while for the Northerners, Sally Currency got eight, and Giselle Antoine and Crystal Ford seven goals each. Magdalene Tracy (South West/Fyzabad) and Grant (Mucurapo Junior/North) were tied for third in the individual shooting.
