Pan Trinbago: Pan On the Road 2004
This year sees the return of The Jouvert Bomb competition on Frederick and Hart Streets, Port-of-Spain.
Come Monday February 23, Pan Trinbago in collaboration with the Port-of-Spain City Corporation will revive the Classical Jouvert Morning Bomb competition in which steelbands are required to play any classical piece in calypso tempo. The contest will take place from 5 am to 10 am Jouvert morning on Hart Street and is open to all financial members of Pan Trinbago in both the Conventional and Single Pan Band categories. The Bomb as we know it was declared a non-calypso steelband competition in 1965, the year in which Highlanders won playing “Let Every Valley Be Exalted.”
Apart from this competition, Pan Trinbago Central Executive will also be producing four other competitions under the banner “Pan On The Road 2004.” They are: “Tribute to Kitchener” on Monday and Tuesday to be judged downtown Port-of-Spain and “Best Carnival Tune 2004” also on Monday and Tuesday to be judged at the Queen’s Park Savannah. For the latter competition, bands will be judged on any 2004 calypso other than their Panorama tune. A total of $234,000 in prizes is at stake. Interested steelbands must register at Pan Trinbago Head Office, Victoria Park Suites, Park Street, no later than Sunday February 22 2004 at 12 noon.
