London disappointed B’dos trip called off

CHIEF SECRETARY of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), Orville London is disappointed that a planned trip to Barbados by a Government-led delegation to deal with the fishing dispute was called off at the last minute.

While it was not clear what prompted the cancellation, London said his information was that there was a breakdown in the diplomatic channels between TT and Barbados. However, Newsday understands that there was a diplomatic foul-up on the Barbados side as there was no “diplomatic confirmation” of the meeting, so TT officials decided to abort the trip.

According to well-placed sources,  up to midday Wednesday there had been no word from Barbados on the meeting. Speaking to Newsday at his official residence at Lowlands, Tobago, London said: “As a representative of Tobago I am disappointed that the process seems to have been frustrated again, through no fault of the Trinidad and Tobago delegation. “However, we in Tobago and in the THA will remain focused on our objective, which is to ensure that the interests of Tobago, especially the fishing interests, remain paramount in the discussions.”
