Kenya struggling to avoid defeat
GEORGETOWN: Kenya were struggling on 172 for seven wickets yesterday in their second innings against Guyana in a seventh-round Carib Beer Series regional cricket match at Bourda. Forced to follow on after a first-innings of 139, the Kenyans were moving slow in replying to Guyana’s first innings of 444. Kenya reached 96 for three wickets at tea yesterday in their second innings battling to avoid an innings defeat against the hosts. Kennedy Otieno racked up most of the runs, hitting 70 before tea. Hatesh Modi was not out on 44.
For Guyana, Neil McGarrell took three wickets for 43 runs, while Mahendra Nagamootoo took two for 37. This is the final preliminary round of matches in the annual regional tournament. Guyana is engaged in a rearguard effort to secure a place in the semifinals starting later this month. They need to win outright on the final day today. Barbados have already won the Carib Cup by winning all six previous preliminary matches. They completed a clean sweep of the preliminary round by claiming their seventh consecutive victory against Trinidad and Tobago at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre yesterday.
