Yorke not returning to play under St Clair
Tobago-born Blackburn striker, Dwight Yorke, has blanked a request by THA Chief Secretary, Orville London, to rejoin the Bertille St Clair football squad for World Cup 2006. The football star has further refused to “come out of international retirement” basing this decision “solely on the way I was treated the last time around.”
A correspondence dated February 13, 2004 to the Chief Secretary, quoted Dwight as saying: “I will always have a great respect in my heart for Bertille St Clair and, of course, I’m immensely proud of my country. What has happened in the past, I’m afraid I cannot bury. Before my retirement from the national team, I don’t think that there was a player more dedicated and committed to this country than I but unfortunately the commitment and respect was not reciprocated by the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association.” Yorke, who received his “teething skills” from St Clair as a former member of the St Clair Coaching School, however wished the national team success on their “Journey to Germany 2006.”
