Advice to Solo Pan Knights

THE EDITOR: If I were a member of the Solo Pan Knights, I would be impressing upon the executive of the band to seriously lobby for the selection of bands for the Panorama finals based on the aggregate points after the prelims and semi-finals. If this system was used, Solo would be the eighth-placed band and Fonclaire would be out.

What are the merits of adopting this approach? Well it’s unfair to have totally ignored the points scored in the first round. Solo had the third highest points (263) overall behind Exodus (273) and Despers (272) after the first round. The preparation and performance of the band therefore just cannot be ignored at the second round stage, as this may, and have resulted, in some bands rendering lack-lustre performances in the first round simply just to “get in” to the semis. I believe this was the case with Phase II.

I am of the view that the aggregation of points would make for a better prelims round where all bands would want to earn the maximum points possible in the first round in the vent that their second round performance may happen to fall short (as happened with Solo Pan Knights).
