Body found at King’s Wharf

The body of an unidentified man was discovered in front of a shack at Kings Wharf, San Fernando, yesterday afternoon.

Up to late yesterday evening police were still trying to find out the identity of the man, who seemed to be in his early 30s. However, police preliminary investigations revealed the man had rented a silver B 14 Nissan Sentra, that was found parked a short distance away from where his corpse was discovered. Owner of the shack, Sylvestor Greene, 56, a bottle collector, told Newsday that he returned home around midday yesterday and found the man on the ground. At first he thought the man was drunk and had “knock out” there but when he shaked him and got no response he realised the man was dead and he called the police.

Greene said he first saw the man about three months ago and he had a female companion with him.  He had not seen him again until yesterday. Clad in a black jersey and a pair of blue jeans, with a slipper on one of his feet, the deceased  was lying on his back. Invetsigators said his body bore no marks of violence. District Medical Officer Dr Bernard Low Chee Tong viewed the body and ordered its removal to the Forensic Sciences Centre, where a post mortem would be performed tomorrow. Visiting the scene was a party of policemen from the San Fernando Homicide and San Fernando CID including PCs Hamid, Dhilpaul, Deosaran and other officers. Investigations are continuing.
