Bail for duo charged with assaulting Newsday lensman

TWO Couva teenagers arrested in San Fernando on Carnival Monday after they allegedly assaulted Newsday’s South Bureau photographer Nicholas Ramjass and allegedly damaged his company’s camera, are due to reappear before a San Fernando magistrate to answer the charges today.

The accused men, who are both 18, appeared before a Justice of the Peace on Monday afternoon, where the one charged with malicious damage of Ramjass’ camera, was granted $35,000 bail while the other accused teen, who was charged with assaulting Ramjass, was granted $500 own-bail. After Ramjass reported the incident to San Fernando CID, PC Toolah Julien carried out investigations and arrested the teens at the San Fernando General Hospital, where they had accompanied a woman who had earlier fainted while taking in the Carnival festivities.
