Hillview out to stop Barrackpore Senior in v-ball final
Perennial champions Barrackpore Senior Comprehensive School, led by national youth player Ryan Deonath, today will be seeking to retain the Petrotrin Trinidad and Tobago Secondary Schools national Under-20 crown. The defending champions will do battle with arch-rivals and North Zone champions Hillview College “A” team in the final today at the Central Regional Indoor Sports Arena (CRISA), Chaguanas from 1 pm. Deonath received solid all-round support from Anthony Diljohn, Kevin Nimrod, Leon Roopchand, Ajesh Kissoon, Avinash Kissoon, Timmons Mohan, Shastri Mahabir, Michael Jaikarran and Kevin Hamilton as they whipped Pleasantville Senior Comprehensive 25-14, 25-21 in their semi-final encounter last weekend.
Their opponents in the final also overpowered South Zone’s runner-up Naparima College 25-14, 25-12 in the other “semi.” Pleasantville had turned back the challenge of Hillview “B” 26-24, 25-22 while “Naps” downed South-East Port-of-Spain (SEPoS), the North Zone third place team, 25-14, 25-21 in their quarter-final showdown. Pleasantville redoubled their efforts and snatched the bronze medals by whipping Naps 26-24, 20-25, 15-13 in a tensely fought encounter to decide the national third place team. National defending girls Under-20 champion St Joseph’s Convent, Port-of-Spain will be up against South Zone’s champion Naparima Girls’ High in the other key national final which is also carded for Chaguanas today from 2 pm.
St Joseph’s Convent will also be seeking to make a clean sweep of the girls titles as their other two age group teams are also slated to do battle for national honours. Their Under-14 and Under-16 teams will be up against defending champions Holy Name Convent (PoS) from 9 am and 10 am respectively. Hillview College and South East Port-of-Spain (SEPoS) will face-off in the Boys Under-16 final from 11.30 am. The winning teams and runners-up will collect trophies and medals provided by Petrotrin who have been the major sponsor over the years.
