Sledgehammer attack puts woman in hospital

A 39-YEAR-OLD woman remains hospitalised in serious condition after she was beaten on her head with a sledgehammer on Wednesday. Police are now searching for a 39-year-old male relative in connection with the incident. Investigators said Lennore Phillip Jack, a store clerk, who separated from her male relative the past two years, was attacked around 6 pm while returning to her St Margaret’s Village home.

According to reports, Jack was nearing her home when the man emerged from nearby bushes, pounced on the unsuspecting woman and dragged her into the bushes where he started beating her with a sledgehammer. When Jack slumped to the ground unconscious and bleeding, the man ran off. She reportedly regained consciousness sometime later and her groans alerted passersby. A report was made to the St Margaret’s police and the woman was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where she received emergency treatment and remains warded.  Up to late yesterday no arrests had been made and investigations are continuing.
