FCB workers stage sick-out

EMPLOYEES of First Citizens Bank (FCB) yesterday staged a “sick-out” for which the bank  apologised, although not admitting that the high level of absenteeism was protest action. A release from the bank’s communications officer, Jennifer Armstrong-Khan, stated that the bank was currently involved in negotiations for a new collective agreement with representatives of the Banking, Insurance and General Workers’ Union.

She said the negotiations were taking place in an atmosphere of goodwill and staff were at all times accurately informed of developments. However, she apologised for the unusually high level of absenteeism which occurred yesterday, adding that negotiations will continue on March 4.
