California Govt tops Hydro Agri Games again

CALIFORNIA Government continued their athletic supremacy among the 17 primary schools in the Couva-Preysal Zone of the Caroni Education Division with a convincing victory in the 41st Annual Hydro Agri Athletic Games. California won the title on 40 occasions losing only to Dow Village Government three years ago. The sports meeting was held on Friday at the Ato Boldon Stadium Couva,  with California amassing a total of 500 points beating the rapidly improving Dow Village Government into second place with a total of 419 points. Phoenix Park Government were third  (282 points) with Exchange RC taking the fourth spot with 262 points.

In fifth position was Couva South Government (231 points);  Preysal Government (185 points) were sixth; seventh was Orange Valley Government (169 points); while Spring Vale Hindu (153 points) came in eighth position. In the march past contest, the winner was Phoenix Park Government  (289 points), with California Government  in second spot with 282 points and Orange Valley Government, in third place with 279 points.

Most outstanding athletes in the various age groups were:

BOYS - Maurice Bedeau (Couva AC ) - 20 Points; GIRLS - Natasha Alcindor (Dow Village Gov’t) - 28 points;
9 - 11:
BOYS - - Lester Murphy (Dow Village Government) -28 points; GIRLS - Keisha Smith (Dow Village Government) - 30 points;
11 - 13
BOYS - Andre Adolphus (Exchange RC) and Isiah Pascall (Couva AC) - 28 points each; GIRLS - Samantha Alexis (California Government) - 30 points;
13-15 -
BOYS - Reginald Ramjit (Couva South Government) - 28 points; GIRLS- Dimisha  Delande  (California Government ) 28 points.
Keith Hassanali, Human Resource Manager of Hydro Agri, said that his company was honoured to be associated with a youth programme  in the area of sporting development.
He pledges his company’s support of the Games which he praised for its high level of  organisation.
Claire Matthias, Schools Supervi-sor 11, Caroni, thanked Hydro Agri for their overwhelming support in such a crucial area and hoped that the relationship that was built over the years would grow from strength to strength.
