TILE IT Central Sports sent a warning to the opposition in this season’s Carib National Cricket League with a comprehensive nine-wicket hammering of Alescon Comets at Pierre Road yesterday. Needing 159 to win in 33 overs, the “Tile Men” reached the victory target losing only one wicket with eight balls to spare. Leading the charge was Guyanese import Lennox Cush who smashed an unbeaten 66 and Satish Naidoo who scored 55 not out. Earlier, Central Sports resuming on 102 for six wickets in pursuit of Comets first innings171, rallied to reach 187 all out, for a narrow 16-run lead and first innings points with Rayad Emrit scoring 35 not out and veteran James Dodds scored 34. Nicholas Ramjass took six wickets for 43 runs. Batting a second time Comets again totalled 171 with Imran Khan getting 38 and Suruj Ragoonath 29. Cush who took two wickets for one run in the first innings, claimed another three wickets for 19.
At Diego Martin, defending champions Ceramic Trinidad Merryboys had to be satisfied with first innings points against CLICO Preysal in their drawn match. After reaching 286 on the opening day, Merryboys bowlers restricted Preysal to 176 all out. Aaron Ragoonath batted stubbornly and took the fight to the Patna Boys with 52 but it was not enough. Merryboys skipper Aniel Kanhai took four wickets for 15 runs. Preysal were on 38 for three wickets at the close. At Wilson Road, FCB Clarke Road grabbed first innings points over neighbours PowerGen by 20 runs. PowerGen were bowled out for 181 in response to Clarke Road’s 201. Denzil James struck an enterprising 72, while Sherwin Ganga got 38 for the PowerGen men who struggled against Mukesh Persad who took seven wickets for 59 runs. In their second knock, Clarke Road reached 203 for nine declared with half centuries from Mahadeo Bodoe and Damodar Dasrath.
