Police add to their trophy collection
POLICE added two more trophies to their collection in the All Sectors Netball League. The Policewomen snared the inaugural Retro Division (Over-40) and the Alternative Division X knockout titles in very close matches at the Eastern Regional Indoor Arena, Tacarigua on Monday. First they edged Fire 30-28 for the Alternative Division X title, after the teams played to a 15-15 halftime score.
Gurshier Grant led the Police raid with 29 goals from 35 attempts while Claudia Jack added the other goal from two attempts. Melissa Snaggs had 23 goals from 31 attempts for Fire, while Tricia Roberts had three of six and Chrisaleen Murrell got two of five. Police led all the way in the Retro finale — 9-4, 19-9, 23-14 but had to repel a tremendous final-quarter surge to beat TSTT 27-23. The Policewomen entered the final stanza with a comfortable nine-goal lead but the “Hello Girls” rang their number to outscore them 9-4, but left it too late. Beverly Rodgers netted 19 goals from 24 attempts and Lynette Duncan had eight of 11 for Police. Olivia Le Platte got 14 goals from 22 attempts, Allison Johnsand six of nine and Wendy Sinnette got three of six for TSTT.
Defence Force won the other title decided on Monday, edging Central Bank 28-26 for the Alternative Division Y knockout title. This match was also knotted up 12-12 at the half, but the Army-Coast Guard women managed to outscore their rivals 16-14 in second half for the victory behind Karlene Sylvester’s 22 goals from 28 attempts and Donna Chase’s six of nine. Kathy James got 25 goals from 30 attempts and Camille Aubin had one of four for the Bank Girls.
