St Anthony’s stave off b-ball challenge

It just keeps getting better as the NGC/Express School’s Basketball League North Zone competition winds down. On Monday St Anthony’s College staved off the best challenge from the International School of Port-of-Spain (ISPOS) for a 103-94 win. Both teams were in combative mood combined for the highest score in the league for the 2004 edition of the league. ISPOS’ Daniel Temple scored a match-high 40 points while Chad Gregoire put in 20 and Luther Wilson contributed 10 to the team’s score.

ISPOS would have had the match sewn up if it was not for the efforts of Jabari Phillip with 31, Anton Francis (20), Imo Williams (18) and Ajuma Jaramogi (12), who helped the basketball Tigers as they strained to the finish. In the Girls Open division, twin towers Affeisha Noel and Corisia Blugh combined their experience and skill to topple North Zone princesses Malick Secondary in the opener at the St. Paul’s Street Facility in port-of-Spain. Noel who was most prominent last year and for most of this season pitched in for a match- high 24 points against Malick who have had a moderately successful season so far. Blugh who is hardly seen at Noel’s side tried to match team-mate’s effort and came up with 20 points of her own.
