PAM IN STABLE CONDITION
The Nicholson sisters — Pamela and Pat — remained in stable condition at the Scarborough Hospital yesterday while police continued the search for the intruder who stabbed them at their home Tuesday night in what is believed to be a robbery attempt. Up to yesterday evening, no one had been charged in connection with the incident, but a police source told Newsday investigators had interviewed a number of persons, several of whom were assisting in investigations.
At the surgical ward of the Scarborough Hospital, Newsday was told by medical personnel: “They are both stable; that’s all I can tell you.” Pamela “Sister Pam” Nicholson, former Tobago West MP and NAR Government Minister, and her sister Pat, a former school teacher, were both stabbed by an intruder at their Mt Pleasant home during an incident around 8.15 pm on Tuesday. Pat was attacked by a man who approached her from behind, tried to push her to the floor, and then dealt her several stabs. Pam tried to intervene but fell, and was also stabbed several times about the body by the man who later escaped in a waiting car. Nothing was taken from the home. The victims were bleeding excessively and emergency surgery was performed. Ag Insp Sharpe and Sgt Edwards are spearheading investigations.
Manning expresses regret over attack on Pam
Prime Minister Patrick Manning said yesterday he deeply regretted the attack on former MP and Government Minister Pamela Nicholson. Speaking at a post-Cabinet news conference, Manning said he felt confident that it was not politically motivated. He said he had spoken with the Minister of National Security and would be following very closely the findings of the police on this matter. “Meanwhile I would like, on behalf of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, to express regret that such an attack took place, and to wish her and her sister a speedy recovery,” Manning stated.
