Coaches told to share knowledge
The English FA International Coaching Licence course started on Thursday at the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence, Macoya with 30 coaches from 18 CONCACAF countries taking part. FA Instructors Roger Soper and Steve Rutter are conducting the course which will cover several important topics in modern football, including Modern Tactics and Strategies; and the short, medium and long-term preparation of football teams. Successful participants will receive the FA Coaching Licence, which is a prerequisite for the Advanced Licence.
This year makes the third time that the programme is staged at Macoya. Previously 62 regional coaches attended the two courses held. TTFF technical director Lincoln Phillips delivered the opening remarks on behalf of the Football Federation and offered some advice to the participants. “You are hear to learn and it is important that you pay close attention to your instructors. Never assume that you know everything. Coaches must always seek to increase their knowledge and listen to others,” he said. “It is also important to share your knowledge with others and we expect that when you go back home each one of you will spread the message far and wide. This is an opportunity to gain valuable information on coaching methods,” the former top goalkeeper said.
“One of our main problems in the region is that sometimes we do not plan our coaching sessions as well as we should but now you will have an opportunity to address it,” Phillips said. Countries represented include Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Costa Rica, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, St Lucia, St Kitts-Nevis, Turks and Caicos Islands, St Vincent and The Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, USA and US Virgin Islands.
