Mason atop Seniors Classic

CARL MASON, who was the top money-earner in the 2003 PGA European Seniors Tour, is atop the leaderboard entering today’s final day of the Tobago Plantations Seniors Golf Classic at the Tobago Plantations Beach and Golf Resort. Yesterday, the 51-year-old Englishman carded an eight-under-par 64, for a two-day score of 135, to lead the field after another hot and humid day on the greens. Scotland’s John Chillas remains in second spot with 140 after he registered another score of 70 with American Hank Woodrome (70) and Argentina’s Horacio Carbonetti (71) joint third with 142.

Overnight leader American John Grace shot a round of 74 yesterday, and now shares fifth position with eight other golfers. Defending champion Terry Gale of Australia shot a four-under-par 68 to enter today’s final round on 143. Gale shares fifth spot with South Africa’s Jeff Hawkes (70), Scotland’s Bill Longmuir (72), Brazil’s Priscillo Diniz (70), Australia’s David Good (71), England’s Denis Durnian (72), Spain’s Manuel Pinero (72)and Wales’ Craig Defoy (72). Lone Trinidad and Tobago representative Alan Mew is joint 21st after a two-over-par 74 for a tally of 146. Tee-off time today is 8 am.
