West Indies women gearing up for day/night debut
KARACHI: The West Indies women are gearing up for their day/night debut in One-Day International (ODI) cricket today when they take a 1-0 lead into the second of seven matches. West Indies beat Pakistan in the first ODI on Sunday at the Karachi National Stadium and coach Ann Browne-John says she has done what she can to prepare them for the unfamiliar night cricket with floodlights. “We have had a lot of discussion about it,” Browne-John told CMC Sport. “I have tried to discuss with them all that they should expect and all that we will expect to happen in the day/night game, and hopefully once they put their heads to it, they will be successful,” she added.
The West Indies women beat Pakistan by seven wickets in the first ODI on Sunday with Nelly Williams (54), Verena Felicien (31 not out) and Phillipa Thomas (2-30) the top performers. Sent to bat, Pakistan made 142 for eight off 50 overs and West Indies responded with 144 for three in 37 overs. “They did just as I expected, they played very efficiently. They bowled well and very, very economically,” Browne-John said. “Pakistan never got a chance to dominate the bowling and once they had bowled out Pakistan for a low score, then I knew it was going to be a matter of time before we won the match, because they really batted sensibly,” she added.
