Punters to contend with nine-race card on Saturday

The Arima Race Club encountered a paucity of entries in two of ten events but were still able to put together a nine-race card for round nine of the current racing season at Santa Rosa Park, Arima on Saturday. The West Indian bred four-year-old and over non-winners of three races over 1750 metres and the Optional Claiming $6,000 contest framed over 1100 metres fell short of expectations at entry and declaration stage yesterday and were cancelled. The former attracted a measly two runners and the latter five. But while those events fell short of names on the intended ten race card, it was not so with the West Indian bred three-year-olds maiden event, which was oversubscribed with 27 runners.

The well patronised 1350 metres race was split into A and B divisions, which helped save the ARC the embarassment of having to extend the deadline time to entries for both events or to reframe replacement races. The Allowance event, which holds spotlight on Saturday has a line-up of six, the poorest on the nine-race card to which 86 runners took entry. But the 1000 metres sprint framed for the Turf, though not packed,  still looks competitive in nature with speed merchants Fortunate Flag, Notanothernoble, Cash Wager, Miss Lover Lover, Fabulour Risk and Twice Infallible squaring off at the purses valued at $26,000.
