Young Republic Bank golfers show promise

A NUMBER of young aspiring golfers, between the ages of five and 17, were introduced to the basic skills of golf during an eight-week Republic Bank Chaguaramas Junior Golf Clinic, which took place at the Chaguaramas Golf Course. The programme was part of the bank’s stated desire to support junior golf, and to expose the youngsters to the finer aspects of the sport. The prize-giving ceremony was held at the Chaguaramas Golf Club on Sunday last, with Lystra Daly, the Area Operations Manager for the West Mall, Diego Martin, Glencoe and Cruise Inn outlets making the feature address.

Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Roger Boynes was invited to attend the closing session but did not. “Golf has made its presence known among all groups in society through the growing numbers of young people that now make up a large part of its fan base,” Daly said. “We see the promise of tomorrow’s leaders in young people like these junior golfers and have adopted the sport under our ‘Power to Make a Difference’ programme which aims to give young people ‘The Power to Succeed,’” the top Republic Bank official stated.
