Grenada win in Windwards series
GRENADA defeated Dominica by four wickets in the opening round of the National Flour Mills (NFM) 2004 Windward Islands cricket series at Munroe Road. A fine all round performance by West Indies Under-19 cricketer Mervyn Matthews took Grenada to victory on Wednesday. Dominica were bowled out for 120 with Matthews claiming five wickets for 24 runs. And Grenada replied with 148 behind a fighting 32 from Matthews.
Facing a deficit of 28 runs on first innings, Dominica reached 200, leaving Grenada 173 for victory. Matthews took two more wickets for 55 runs for match figures of seven for 79. Grenada reached the victory target for the loss of six wickets with Matthews again at the forefront with 20. At Gilbert Park, California, the game between St Vincent and St Lucia ended in a stalemate. Earven Frederick hit 99 to take St Lucia to a sizeable 311 and St Vincent replied with 278. The St Lucians rattled up 143 for two in their second knock, with a quickfire 66 from Russell Emmanuel which included ten fours, leaving St Vincent to get 177 for victory.
