Watch Norfolk, Marino in ‘Beacon’ cycling

WITH their performances on the second day of the West Indies vs The World Cycling Series, England’s Johnathan Norfolk and Joel Marino of Cuba have set the pace for the remainder of the competition and the members of their respective teams. Norfolk did well to hold off Trinidad and Tobago’s Elisha Greene in the five lap international event with Argentina’s Jose Winchinsky next, followed by and Marino. Marino got his spot in the limelight as he pedalled to victory over Venezuelan Richard Ochoa in the Double Devil International. Peter Jacques (England) was third and Trinidad and Tobago road king Emile Abraham (WI) fourth.

Italian Robert Chippa also sent out a warning to all sprinters when he won the one-lap Standing start event, the day’s feature, making it evident what to is to be expected when the sprint races come along. The Italian will also be keen to break the Flying 200 11.11 second record set by Stephen “Tyson” Alfred in the process. Clinton Grant beat Ako Kellar into second place in the Category 1 three-lap ride in a time of 1:49.22. Adam Alexander was third and Winzy Mohammed was fourth. And the Category 2 and 3 four-lap fell to Heatwave youngster Marc Ogiste in a time of 2:36.73 with Sheldon Ramjit second and Barry Luces third.
