Any of four can take ARC Cup

WITH champion Sugar Mike out, it is now open season for the Grade One Arima Race Club Cup, feature race on the ARC Easter fare at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, on Saturday. From the line up of eight declared runners for the $75,000 race over 1800 metres, the winner can come from the quartet of Phantom Bidder, Miss Lover Lover, Phantom Menace and Invincibility. But the lightly weighted Fabulous Risk and Daredevil Hero cannot be oevrlooked, and yet there is Dottie’s Way, who on her best form could be one with which to reckon. Another intriguing event is the 1350 metres framed for imported maidens with 11 runners set to face the starter. Alert The Ship has been strutting his speed, so too Sky Storm Rising, Premier Attraction, Florida Fame and Premier Attraction.

And no turfite in his right mind could afford to leave out This Cat Is Back, Speak The Truth and Soul Asylum from his considerations. It would be foolhardy to oppose Pave The Way in the $50,000 Flamingo Stakes for three-year-olds over 1350 metres. Who will be next best in this?  The choice could be made from the vastly improved Kato, Privilege or Mucho Tempo. The fillies category over the same distance is more of a toss up, with French Academy, Java Takeover, Melanie My Love and St Ann’s Stakes winner  Trini To D Bone holding the engagement. All things equal in this, French Academy should be the choice, but there is much to fear from the Maniram “Boboy” Maharaj duo of Java Takeover and Melanie My Love. Saturday’s 10-race programme is a very attractive one with several very competitive races to tickle the betting palate of turfites.
