Caparo stage Family Day on Monday

The Caparo Sports and Family Day on Easter Monday, will feature 40 events including a road race from Thompson Road, Palmiste to Caparo Junction. This event promises to be the highlight of the day’s proceedings. Since its formation in the early 1950s the Sport and Family Day has been a joint effort of the Caparo Village Council and the Caparo Sport Committee, led by Vishnu Boodhai and Hamilton Bovril respectively. And the sports day at Caparo has become a main fixture on the local sporting calendar.

According to Councillor Paras Ramoutar, Easter Monday continues to be a day of reunion, camaraderie and athletics supremacy in the community. Ramoutar said several of the participants in the events have graduated and gone on to perform well on the national stage. He expects the attendance of 3,000 spectators as it has been billed as one of the most impressive and well-organised sporting events in central. Among the other events planned are walking, cycling, running, high jump, women and children’s races, musical chairs and egg and spoon races. The cash and prize contributions of the corporate community have bolstered the organising efforts and ensured the success of the sport and family day.
