TT Under-15s roll over Guyana

KINGSTOWN: Holders Jam-aica and contenders Barbados, as well as two-time champions Trinidad and Tobago, all completed victories in the second round of the West Indies junior cricket championship on Thursday. The Jamaicans and the Barbadians romped to their second straight victories respectively over Leeward Islands by 113 runs and Windward Islands by 103 runs, while Trinidad and Tobago rolled over Guyana by 36 runs for their first win in the Championship. At Sion Hill: Guyana’s top order failed to come to the party and they failed in their bid to overhaul TT’s 177 for eight from 50 overs. David Wallace, batting at six, was the leading light for Guyana with 45 in their total of 141 from 45.2 overs, as Vishan Jagessar captured three wickets for 32 runs from 9.2 overs for TT.

TT’s Darren Bravo, brother of senior batsman Dwayne Bravo, hit six fours in 74 to anchor his side’s innings in which six batsmen fell between zero and 10 after they chose to bat. An unbroken stand of 42 between Vickram Malloram, not out on 28, and Visham Ramroop, not out on 20, lifted TT to their eventual total after they had slid to 135 for eight. At Stubbs: Chasing Barbados’ 230 from 49.3 overs, Windward Islands were dismissed for 127 in 39.2 overs with Reco Vaughan and Stephan Gooding sharing six wickets for Barbados equally. The rot set in for Windwards after they cruised to 61 for one. They slid to 88 for six before their eventual downfall. Keddy Lespories top-scored for Windwards with 36 and Lauron Francois scored 30. Earlier, Rashidi Boucher hit 11 fours in the top score of 53 and Renaldo Arthur scored 40 after Barbados chose to bat.

Boucher and Arthur were involved in two crucial partnerships with captain Simon Steele, who made 27, that gave the Barbadians the foundation for a challenging total. Opener Boucher and Steele added 46 for the third wicket before the Barbados captain and Arthur put on 59 for the fourth wicket to take Barbados 142 for three. Three wickets fell for 17 runs, but a stand of 39 between Christopher Jordan and Reco Vaughan steadied the innings. At Arnos Vale: Three run outs and three wickets for Errol Thomas triggered a Leewards batting collapse as they were dismissed for a modest 86 in 44.2 overs, replying to Jamaica’s 199 for six from 50 overs. Openers Kieran Powell and Kevil Tyson, as well as Jean-Luc Lambourdier were all run out to leave Leewards 20 for three. They never recovered, particularly when Thomas checked their progress mid-stream with his brace of wickets for 13 in 10 overs.

Jamaica had been paced to their total by knocks of 59 from Nkrumah Bonner, 46 not out from Derval Green and 36 from Christie Jones. Vincent Shadrach was the most successful Leewards bowler with three for 51 from 10 overs. Curtis Morton took two for 29 from 10 overs. The Championship continues today when TT face Jamaica at Stubbs, Windwards meet Leewards at Sion Hill, and Barbados tackle Guyana at Arnos Vale. Summarised scores
