Selective law enforcement

THE EDITOR: I received a traffic ticket last week from a vigilant policeman under the new traffic enforcement plan taking place in downtown Port-of-Spain. I was sitting in my car on Henry Street, just below Queen Street on the correct side of the road, waiting on my wife, when a young police officer motioned for me to roll down my window. He informed me that I was required to park 30 feet from the corner and in fact I was parked 20 feet.

Despite my pleadings, I received a $200 parking ticket. Meanwhile, right across the street outside the furniture and appliance store, was a man selling shoes and slippers on large boxes and crates which actually extended beyond the corner into the intersection. I observed that the policeman did not ask him to move his boxes and crates back from the corner. I feel hurt and angered by this selective enforcement in the downtown area. I would like the authorities and the Mayor of Port-of-Spain to explain to me the logic of this situation.
