What do roadblocks accomplish?

THE  EDITOR: I acknowledge that the police have a very diffficult and dangerous job to do, ( like a lot of other people), but why must they inconvenience people especially on a long weekend? Going to the beach over two days on  the Easter week-end was a bad idea for my friend and I as we encountered the time wasting police roadblocks on three occasions. We lost about five hours of precious time, and to make matters worse, at one roadblock the officers were very hoggish in their manner of speaking to my friend.

What I want to know is what did the police accomplish with all these roadblocks? Did they find any kidnap victims in any car trunk? Did they find any arms cache or any drug shipment of cocaine in any SUV? Did they apprehend any kidnappers, or wanted criminals? Did they find any gang members? I don’t think so! What a waste of people’s precious time!
