More kudos for Brian Lara

THE EDITOR: The King of Port-of-Spain, Brian Charles Lara has done it again. Ten years ago I wrote saying that he would have broken his own record of 375 runs, that did not happen, but now he has still broken the record for the second time with more glamour and style. This is even greater than what he did ten years ago on the same ground in Antigua, whereas at that time he got out after breaking Sobers’ record of 365 runs, this time he scored an even 400 runs not out. The Antiguan Recreation Ground (ARG) should bear his name now for it is here that he created history for the second time in ten years.

Now without any doubt Sir Brian is the greatest batsman in the world of all time. The Queen of England has to knight him now Sir Brian Charles Lara especially as he broke the world record against England for the second time. He was badly out of form in the three other Test matches, but he has struck form in the right time to achieve this great success. I believe that this world record would stand for a long time although there are many batsmen making large scores, but it takes a Herculean effort to stand up to the rigours of the conditions, and strong concentration to perform this great feat. About seven years ago Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka almost broke Lara’s first record, he came out to bat from overnight, but he failed by 35 runs. The Captain of Australia Mark Taylor, scored 334 runs and had a good chance to break the record, but instead opted to win an important test match against Pakistan. Then came Matthew Hayden from Australia who scored 380 runs in October last year to break Lara’s record, but he was only champion for five months, and lost his bout to the true champion, Sir Brian Charles Lara.

It is nice to see that the record has come back to Trinidad and the West Indies especially since the team is undergoing such pressure while trying to redeem themselves from their wagging performance. I believe this is the turning point for West Indies cricket, and once again thanks to Captain, Sir Brian Charles Lara with his stunning performance as only he can execute with his great batting skills. I am sure from now on the West Indian supporters who were broken-hearted would see a different West Indies team in action as in the days when we were unbeatable. Congratulations once more to the greatest batsman in the world, Sir Brian Charles Lara.
