EMA, protect Vessigny

THE EDITOR: The National Energy Corporation has been involved in destruction of the environment in the Vessigny/Union Village area. The habitat of birds, monkeys and other animals has been destroyed. It is immaterial that the lands belong to Petrotrin and not to the dwellers of the buildings. It is a disgrace that the Environmental Management Authority is taking this matter lightly. The members of EMA Board of Management should be the forced to resign.

The impression given to members of the public is that since little people are the inhabitants of the area, there is no justice for them in their struggle against a big company, in this case the NEC. Where are the environmentalists? Where are Molly Gaskin, Eden Shand, Prof Julian Kenny, Prof Spence? What does Anne Hilton have to say about this matter? This matter should not be taken lightly. It is just as serious as destruction of the northern range and pollution of the rivers. If no action is taken against the NEC, the public may well be allowed to destroy, pollute and interfere with the environment as much as they want. I await serious action from the EMA.
