‘Dies Irae’ for local speed warriors

THE EDITOR: I recently read that the RAC (Royal Automobile Club) of Britain has named two very dramatic pieces of music to be a danger to drivers; to wit: Wagner’s ‘Flight of the Valkyries;’ and Verdi’s ‘Dies Irae’ (Day of Wrath). In Northern mythology the Valkyries are nine beautiful maidens who visit battlefields on flying horses, to transport the souls of the bravest of the slain to Valhalla to feast with the gods.

Here on battlefield Earth, Wagner transports our souls on soundwaves into another world. Should the RAC’s advisory become global it would certainly be the ‘Dies Irae’ for our local speed warriors, who die bravely in battles with medians, electricity poles, and juggernauts, only to be denied their Valhalla. Will the next strike be from Thor’s Hammer!
