No faith in Collymore

THE EDITOR: During the past six months I have tried to reconcile the WI selectors and captain’s faith in Corey Collymore as an international cricketer. The senior strike bowler has the responsibility to set examples by his actions, taking wickets, bowling to the field and not giving away unnecessary advantages.

In the last ten matches Collymore has failed to take wickets and on this ground alone he would have been dropped in any other cricketing nation. In his ODI speciality he has been knocked about as a Good Friday Bobolee, he bowls wides and no balls giving the opponents more overs to score runs. What contribution is this player making to WI cricket?

At age 30 Dillon is recalled on what grounds, especially when they’re the likes of Lawson, Taylor, Powell and a host of others waiting in the wings. Sentiment does not win matches. Only performances on the field of play matters. Collymore and Dillon have failed and the WI maintain their losing streak. Let us lose with the youth — Lawson, Taylor, Rampaul, Best and Edwards.
