Couple on gun charges denied bail

A Chaguanas couple, charged with possession of marijuana for trafficking and gun-related offences, was yesterday denied bail pending tracing. The illegal narcotics has an estimated street value of $72,000. Curtis Dickson and Sandra Sankar, both 38, of 43 Cemetery Street in Chaguanas, appeared before Magistrate Jo-Anne Connor at the Port-of-Spain Four C Magistrates’ Court charged with possession of 44.49 kilos of marijuana for trafficking, one pump action shotgun, one shotgun barrel, ten rounds of 12 gauge ammunition, ten rounds of 9mm ammunition and three rounds of .22 ammunition.


The two were arrested and charged on Friday following a search of their home by officers attached to the Firearm Interdiction Unit (FIU), Homicide Bureau of Investiga-tion and the Defence Force. The charges were laid by PC Howard of the FIU. The two were represented by attorney Ian Brooks. Connor turned down Brooks’ application for bail prior to tracing and adjourned the matter to today and transferred it to the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court.
