Top Of The Class bang in form

TRIPLE CROWN winner Top Of The Class showed he is back to his best with a sparkling gallop at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, yesterday morning. The Glenn Mendez-trained star stepped 800 metres in 48.99 seconds and appeared to be relishing the sloppy underfoot conditions. The four-year-old colt also had a showcase spin over 1000 metres on Monday, timed in 1:02.1 seconds by the official clocker.

Another to show good form on the gallops yesterday was newcomer Life In The Sky who sped over 400 metres in 23.68 seconds. This run followed his splendid spin over 1,000 metres clocked in 1:02.1 seconds on Monday morning, only matched by Top Of The Class. Daredevil Hero showed why he will be a prohibitive favourite to win the Mentone Stakes for imported three-year-olds over 1750 metres on Saturday with a comfortable 1000 metres gallop in 1:08.0 seconds. Yesterday, the Glenn Mendez-trained sprinter-stayer looked very lively again in an 800 metres blow out in 49.17 seconds. And Notanothernoble galloped over the same trip in 1:05 seconds flat also on Monday. But horses entered for the Gleneagle Stakes over 1800 metres, were kept on easy street by trainers yesterday and Monday. Most of the entrants were seen out doing pace work on the sloppy track.
