Brian Lara’s country

THE EDITOR: A phone call from Nottingham, UK informed us at Niagra Falls when Lara made his 400 runs not out. Our son-in-law Dr Jason Naimat could not contain himself! When Brian passed through Charlieville I poised myself in my balcony ready with my 80 mm Zoom Olympus. That photo was for Jason. I recounted to him, they were announcing Brian Charles Lara — Brian Charles Lara — I said is it because of the “Charles” the people named him prince, then crowned him king!

He replied Prince Charles got his name through no merit but by birthright. Brian achieved what no man on earth could do! They cannot be compared. Talk about pride and loyalty to Brian! But before Brian scored his 400 runs or even 375 runs, Trinidad was already Lara’s country. Whenever we travel to the Middle East people find difficulty to place Trinidad and Tobago. But as soon as we say, same country as Brian Lara the reaction is ah! Brian Lara, Trinidad, West Indies Cricket. From there on excited cricket discussions start. There you have it. “Prince” Brian has been and will always be an Ambassador for Trinidad and Tobago and indeed the West Indies because he achieved greatness!
