Slavery days long over
THe Editor: It is interesting to read the various stories in the print media, concerning the visit of Nelson Mandela, particularly the ones about the Country Club. This whole question of slave and slave master etc ad nauseum has become very tiresome. Can Mr Kafra Kambon (is it not illegal to masquerade under a pseudonym?) stand with right hand on the Bible or whatever and left hand on heart and swear that his forefathers never captured any African tribesmen and sold them to the so called slave masters?
“Let He who is without sin cast the first stone”. Slavery is something awful, and is something that all races and tribes all over the world have had in their history. Indeed in some parts of Africa and the Far East even today there is still slavery. In Europe and the Middle East in the days of our Lord, there was slavery. There were slaves in Rome at the time of Ceasar and the Roman Emperors. Come on! We passed that stage, let’s move on!
