Govt under pressure
THE EDITOR: At the height of the strike by workers at Atlantic LNG I heard Mr Larry Achong say on TV and radio that he could not see how a little bit of money for a few workers could upset the whole economy. Well, Mr Achong’s chickens are coming home to roost, as they say. The pipeline workers want more than the Atlantic people got and TTEC workers are not prepared to take less than that. The Bankers also want their piece too. It would be interesting to see if they would settle for less than construction workers.
So common sense tells me that it will only be a matter of time before any minimum wage in the energy sector is four times the national minimum. Inflation will be worse than anything we ever experienced before. It seemed like a good idea at the time to lock the neck of the foreign investor to pay more to people already getting plenty, from what I see. Now government is facing the music as they have a major interest in the pipeline, TTEC and FCB. Only time will tell if what is good for the goose is also good for the gander.
