Murder suspect goes silent; investigations continue

The alleged killer of 19-year-old Devon Cox, who was shot to death on Monday morning, has grown silent on both families.  Initially, the suspect had been in contact with the families, when he explained to the grieving relatives that his overdrinking caused him to shoot the teenager. Contacted yesterday for comment, however, the grieving relatives of the murdered teenager said they only heard from the killer on the day of  the incident. Since then, they claim they haven’t heard from him and they are becoming increasingly concerned over his silence.

Asked whether it would make them feel more comfortable if the suspect was held by police, one grieving relative said that would at least bring some closure to their suffering. A relative of Cox also revealed that a male cousin of the alleged killer, who reportedly witnessed the incident, was held by investigating officers for questioning about the incident. According to the relative, “When the suspect called us, he said his cousin was there and he told us his cousin could have stopped him from shooting Devon. He said he did not know why his cousin did not stop him because his cousin knew that he was drunk.”

Investigating officers refused to comment on the status of the investigation.  Cox’s funeral service will be held today at the Waterhole, Seventh Day Adventist Church at 11 am. Scores of relatives and friends are expected to attend the service, including relatives of the suspect. “Both families are still on speaking terms. Our father has calmed down somewhat, and (suspect’s name called) family has also been in constant contact with us,” said Cox’s relative.
