Former CoP Kenny Mohammed dies

Mohammed, who was hospitalised after suffering a stroke at his La Florissante, D’Abadie, home, in January 2012, reportedly succumbed to his condition early yesterday, family members said. Mohammed, who was in his 70’s, had served as commissioner from 1996 to 1998.

In paying tribute to Mohammed, Deputy Police Commissioner Mervyn Richardson described his late colleague as one of the country’s outstanding local officers.

“He began in the Eastern Division and later left an indelible mark, especially in the area of community policing,” Richardson said.

“We will remember him for steering the ship in that direction. He had a good run.” Former Police Commissioner James Philbert, who said he was shocked by the news of Mohammed’s passing, regarded him as one of the Police Service’s administrative commissioners. “He served with dignity. He did well.” Philbert said.
