Wanderers eye 6th Carib Shield
W CONNECTION Wanderers will be looking to achieve their sixth Carib Shield title when they meet the powerful Alescon Comets lineup in today’s final at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre. First ball is 6.30 pm in the 30-over-per-side affair with the winning team earning $25,000. Runners-up will receive $12,000. Wanderers who dethroned 2003 champs FCB Clarke Road at the quarter-final stage, defeated CLICO Preysal in their semi-final match at the Inshan Ali Park, Preysal, two weeks ago, while Comets were 22-run winners over Tile It Central Sports in the other semi.
The Wanderers team will rely heavily on the pace of Avalon Cuffy and the spin of Sanjeev Gooljar, while Comets will pin their hopes on captain Suruj Ragoonath, another ex-national and West Indies player, leg-spinner Dinanath Ramnarine, ex-TT batsmen Anil Balliram and Rajendra Mangalie, opener Chris Magram and Guyanese fast bowler Reon Griffith. But, in event of rain today, tomorrow has been set as a reserve day.
