Stars shine bright over Tobago Utd
NORTH EAST STARS have surged to the top of the T&T Pro League after their emphatic 5-1 victory over Tobago United at their Sangre Grande Recreation Ground. The FA Trophy holders got four goals from national striker Jerren Nixon in Wednesday’s game. He opened the scoring in the 11th minute, but the plucky Tobagonians who are still to gain a point after five games, stunned the partisan crowd with an 18th minute equaliser from Michael Bailey. Nixon restored “The Stars” lead in the 42nd minute and got his hat-trick on the stroke of half-time.The powerful left-footed striker completed his beaver trick in the 65th, then Andhony Wolfe found the net in the 67th minute to round off the scoring.
Champions CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh continued their indifferent form with a 0-0 draw with Starworld Strikers at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. But W Connection climbed to the top with a 2-0 shut out of Defence Force at Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Andre Toussaint put Connection ahead after 39 minutes, and Elijah Joseph ensured the three points with his strike in the 70th. Arima/Morvant Fire, after two early defeats, moved within striking distance of the leaders with a slim 1-0 triumph over South West Drillers at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Marabella.
The Fire clung tanaciously to an Abdullah Phillips 22nd minute strike for the three points. Leaders North East Stars journey to Palo Seco Recreation Ground to take on hosts South West Drillers from 5 pm today. And also from 5 pm today, at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Starworld Strikers face Defence Force, while Connection take on Tobago United at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva. Jabloteh will meet The Fire tomorrow afternoon at the Hasely Crawford Stadium from 4 pm.
