Champions Preysal cruise in Fruta cricket

HOLDERS Clico Preysal made light work  of Las Lomas Sports, when action in this year’s Fruta Cricket Festival got underway at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva. After scoring 175 for six wickets in Wednesday night’s game on an artificial turf wicket with Dinesh Ramdin getting 54, Navin Stewart 44 and Alistair Pajotte 37, the champs bundled out Las Lomas for a paltry 86. The Las Lomas batsmen fournd Rakesh Maharaj who took three for 19 and Kevin Nanan two for 18 difficult to handle. And First Citizens Bank Clarke Road scored an emphatic 10-wicket victory over UWI in the other game.


UWI batted first and totalled 112 for nine wickets, with Richard Kelly hitting a brilliant unbeten 56 including three sixes. Mahadeo Boddoe took three UWI wickets for 18 runs and Alan Mahabir two for 11. But Clarke Road had little difficulty in knocking off the runs, reaching  114 without losing a wicket. Both Gregory Mahabir and Tishan Maharaj were unbeten on 53 runs each as their team cruised to victory. Action continues Wednesday at the Ato Boldon Stadium, with Powergen meeting Munroe Road in the first match and Queen’s Park taking on W Connection Wanderers in the other.
