Nixon takes over as PFL topscorer
Former Europe-based professional Jerren Nixon is now the leading scorer in Trinidad and Tobago’s Professional Football League (PFL) after netting a bunch of goals on Wednesday. Nixon scored four times for North East Stars to overtake Guyana’s Randy Jerome as the league’s scoring leader as NE Stars ran past Tobago United 4-1 and climbed to the top of the PFL standings.
St Lucian Elijah Joseph also made the scoring headlines for W-Connection as they dismissed Defence Force 2-0. At the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Andre Toussaint (39th) and Joseph (70th) knocked in goals either side of half time that gave W-Connection maximum three points and joint 13 points with NE Stars at the top of the table. NE Stars, enjoying the league lead on goal difference, were untroubled as they cruised past Tobago United at the Sangre Grande Recreation Ground.
Anthony Wolfe added to Nixon’s four goals while Michael Bailey netted a consolation goal for Tobago United. Nixon, who previously played for Dundee (Scotland) and FC Zurich (Switzerland), lifted his scoring tally for the season to ten goals, three clear of Jerome, last year’s leading marksman. In other matches, champions CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh were held to a 0-0 draw by Starworld Strikers, and Arima-Morvant Fire beat South West Drillers 1-0 on an Abdullah Phillips goal. (CMC)
