Rain robbed us says TT women’s cricket captain
Trinidad and Tobago’s Captain Stephanie Power is disappointed her side missed their target of copping the West Indies Women’s Cricket Federation (WIWCF) double. TT retained the knockout title on Sunday, after they had lost the league title to first time winners St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) even though they played unbeaten.
“We went into the tournament thinking that we would have done the double,” Power said. The Vincentians played an excellent league tournament to top the standings with 16 points, two clear of TT, who had two rained out matches including the opening fixture against SVG. SVG had one rain-abandoned fixture and Power believes the weather denied TT the opportunity to repeat as double champions. “We have a very good team, very good batting, very good bowling. Unfortunately the rain robbed us of the league title, but we knew without a doubt that we would have retained the knockout title,” she told CMC Sport.
On Sunday they beat St Lucia by seven wickets in the final to retain their knockout title. Batting first, St Lucia scored 115 all out off 50 overs, and TT responded with 116 for three off 37.3 overs to register an uncomplicated win at the Frank Worrell Development Centre. Leg-spinner Jade Chadee (three for 30) and Envis Williams (two for 17) first restricted St Lucia to 115 all out off 50 overs, before the in form Nelly Williams stroked an unbeaten 57 in TT’s winning response of 116 for three off 37.3 overs.
