Dillon 86 in vain for Parkites

WEST INDIES fast bowler Mervyn Dillon starred with the bat, not the ball, but his efforts could not prevent Queen’s Park from defeat by W Connection Wanderers by 41 runs in the Fruta Twenty/20 Cricket Festival. The game was contested at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Balmain, Couva on Wednesday night. Wanderers batted first after winning the toss and powered their way to 188 runs for six wickets off their mandatory 20 overs, with national Under-19 batsman William Perkins smashing 62, inclusive of four boundaries and six sixes, while Joel Pamphille notched 40, Looknath Ramsuchit 30 and ex-national wicketkeeper-batsman Keno Mason 26.

Earnil Ryan was the pick of the Parkites bowlers with two wickets for 35 runs from four overs. Dillon, later named Man of the Match, was a one-man show with the bat for Queen’s Park, smashing his way to 86 with nine sixes and two fours, but his team-mates could not follow his lead, and they were bowled out for 147 in reply.  Pacer Avalon Cuffy grabbed 3/22 and left-arm spinner Kishore Lalchan 2/27 for Wanderers. In the night’s other game, PowerGen cruised to a 10-wicket victory over Constellation Munroe Road.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, Munroe Road were skittled out for 93 in 18.3 overs despite an unbeaten 38 from Adesh Dass, which included two sixes and three fours. National opener Sherwin Ganga captured 4/23 while another TT player Samuel Badree and Randy Sobie took two wickets apiece for PowerGen. Ganga returned with the bat and blazed his way to an unbeten 46, with five fours and a six, while fellow opener Ahmed Mohammed made 41 not out  with four fours and two sixes, as PowerGen reached 95 without losing a wicket in 9.4 overs. Ganga was adjudged Man of the Match.
