Cops issue $40,000 in tickets
MON REPOS police and Highway Patrol officers issued a total of $40,600 in tickets to errant motorists during a five-hour traffic exercise on Wednesday. Newsday understands that in the wake of increased road fatalities in the country, similar traffic exercises will be conducted to crack down on delinquent motorists. The exercise, headed by Insp Sampath and including acting Sgt John, Cpls Louis and Bissoondath and acting Cpl Hoyte, resulted in 203 tickets being issued between 2 pm and 7 pm. Tickets were issued for such offences as speeding, improper overtaking, over-loading, illegal use of the shoulder and plying private cars for public hire.
