Face of TT

While the launch took place last week at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad, Port-of-Spain, the competition had been underway for weeks prior to this date with preliminary rounds being held in order to choose the top ten.

Make-up artiste, Kirk Thomas, who conceptualised and created the event explained to those gathered that the competition is expected to break barriers in highlighting the often understated importance and perceptions of beauty to the local fashion, entertainment and advertising industries.

At the lauch, one of the competition’s main sponsors, cosmetic brand Revlon, also debuted their Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign for Trinidad and Tobago. “Your Lips Can Save Lives” is the message of the international campaign starring Revlon Global Brand Ambassadors Halle Berry and Emma Stone and her mother, Krista Stone, who is a breast cancer survivor. The message encourages women to talk about cancer and early detection. To participate, customers can purchase $150 worth of Revlon cosmetics at any participating outlet during the month of October.

They will receive one of four T-shirt options and a total contribution of $10 per T-shirt distributed would be donated to the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society.

Face TT’s slogan is “Face the industry, Face the intensity, Face of TT!” and its focus is on the face of contestants, and is geared towards exposing many faces of varying ages, ethnicities, lifestyle and geographical compositions, Thomas said.

“It will reveal the beauty industry’s many layers by tapping into the realities of our landscape of talent and inspirational life stories, and capitalising on the natural supply of exotic women in Trinidad and Tobago, while maintaining international standards of training and development for the top ten finalists,” he explained.

The winner will receive several prizes from sponsors and stakeholders of the competition, a list that includes, Hyatt Regency, photographer Gary Jordan, fashion runway coach and choreographer Nigel Celestine, Media Relations consultant Tenille Clarke, Dollz Beauty Spa, Slam 100.5fm and Progressive Dental Clinic.

Thomas said the competition is looking for the one girl who possesses chameleon-like attributes to represent “beauty” as the consumer defines and to revolutionise buyers’ values on a local, regional and international platform.

Leading up to the event, the contestants will receive training and participate in two photo shoots, one of which will be a East Indian themed shoot that will decide who would be the face of the Bombay Dreams event carded to take place next month.

The ten women who will take part in the competition are Danielle Dolabaille, Chelsea Mohamed, Brettney Romeo, Arielle Moses, Akeela Irish, Natalie Fonrose, Mauricia De Peza, Maria Elena Marquez, Liselle Peters, and Danielle Matouk.
