Police hold 31 in crime crackdown
THIRTY-ONE persons were arrested between Thursday night and yesterday in an exercise conducted by Northern Division police. According to reports, police arrested 31 persons between San Raphael and Mt Hope on 40 outstanding warrants between 10 pm and 3 am yesterday. In addition, a 28-year-old man of Bellesmythe Street in Curepe was held with a .38 revolver and three rounds of ammunition. According to reports, police went to the man’s home to execute the warrant, but he fled through the back door.
A chase ensued and he was caught. He was searched and the gun and ammunition were found in his pocket. The exercise, led by Snr Supt Ruthvein Bastien, is one of several initiatives designed to cut down on the lawlessness in the country. The 31 persons will appear before Tunapuna and Arima court magistrates on Monday.
