Keep an eye on Kato in Guineas

MARK down Kato as one to be on in the feature Union Park Turf Club Guineas on the Eric “Colt” Durant Memorial Day programme on Monday next. The Antonio Navarro-owned chestnut appeared to relish the underfoot conditions at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, yesterday morning, stopping the clock at 1:02.20 seconds for a 1000 metres gallop together with Honor Bound. But Mucho Tempo his conqueror in the Flamingo Stakes over 1350 metres last time out, also showed off his form in a similar spin timed in 1:02.40 seconds.

When this pair met last, Kato was giving Mucho Tempo 1.5 kilos for a 2 ? length beating. But the fastest gallop over the 1000 metres distance was posted by the very speedy Rebel Music, who scorched the track in 1:00.77 seconds. Another Guineas contender to show some spark was Over And Above, who galloped with Sure Wager and clocked the best time over 800 metres — 49.20 seconds. Newcomer Miss Julie had the better of a  600 metres gallop with Man Real Quiet, completed in 35.33 seconds. And the very speedy Alert The Ship tuned up over the same distance in a handy 38.25 seconds. Another good gallop over 600 metres was turned in by the disappointing Fromnowuntil who stopped the clock at 36.77 seconds. Over the shorter trip of 400 metres, Buffalo Soldier posted a 24.52 seconds timing, best of the morning.
